Christmas Candle Advent

Welcome to Aria’s blog!

Today, I’ll show you how to make a charming Christmas candle Advent centrepiece with a twist—Spekulatius biscuit house!

In many cultures, lighting candles during Advent brings warmth, anticipation, and reflection to the Christmas season. The tradition of the Christmas Candle Advent can be traced back to 19th-century Germany. Originally, families would mark each day of December leading to Christmas by lighting candles. Some would use a wreath with four candles, each representing a Sunday of Advent, while others lit a new candle daily to mark the countdown to Christmas Eve. Each flame represents hope, love, joy, and peace, filling homes with a soft glow and reminding us to slow down and cherish the season’s meaning.

Today, this beautiful ritual continues as families light candles to bring a sense of calm and anticipation, creating cherished memories together around the warm glow of Christmas lights.

Spekulatius biscuits are a spiced holiday treat that bring the warmth of German and Dutch Christmas traditions to life! These beautifully molded biscuits are made with rich spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, capturing the cozy flavors of the season. Traditionally, each Spekulatius features intricate designs of Christmas scenes or animals, created using special wooden molds. The name “Spekulatius” is said to derive from the Latin word speculator, meaning "bishop," a nod to St. Nicholas, whose feast day is celebrated in early December.

Biting into a Spekulatius is like taking a step back into Old-World Christmas charm, with their irresistible snap and aromatic spices that fill the air. These biscuits are perfect for holiday gatherings or as a thoughtful, homemade gift. 🎄

These spiced, delicate biscuits are perfect for creating a miniature winter village around your Advent candles.
